If there was ever an angel put on this earth to live amongst us, it was Shirley. She led a Christian life and dedicated herself to Pathway Global Methodist Church (formerly St. Joseph First United Methodist Church). For many years, she headed the monthly commitment to the Soup Kitchen for the church to ensure those who were in need of a meal received it. Her peanut brittle was in high demand at the bazaars held at church and always sold out quickly. Every Christmas, Shirley would shop the after Christmas sales and buy wrapping paper for the Operation Christmas Child boxes. Her flowers from her garden were beautiful and often graced tables at church. Her smile and her presence will be missed, but I know she is at rest.

Eight years ago, my husband and I moved to St. Joseph. Shirley was a member of a Bible study group that I joined. She was so loving and welcoming! My husband and I also volunteered with her at the Benton Harbor soup kitchen. She was so amazing as she organized all of us to help those in need. I learned that she made the best peanut brittle and asked her to teach me. I will never forget that very special time together. She is surely in heaven with her Lord.

I knew Mrs. Johnson thru her daughters, Janice & Kim. She was such a strong lady who loved her flower garden. I pray for her family and know they will keep all the wonderful memories close to their hearts.
