Shirley's Obituary
Shirley Ann Johnson, 90, of St. Joseph passed away Tuesday, December 24, 2024 at Caretel Inns in St. Joseph.
Shirley was born September 18, 1934, in Big Rapids, MI to John and Erma Jefts. She worked long hours on the family farm, until her sweetheart took her away. She married Duane Johnson and they moved to St. Joseph, MI in 1956. She worked in retail, food service and retired as head cook at Upton Middle School after 19 years of service.
Shirley was very active in the First United Methodist Church (Pathway). She was involved in numerous women’s groups, the soup kitchen and was always willing to help her fellow church members when needed. She spent countless hours tending her flowers and enjoyed camping and cooking as well.
Shirley is survived by her daughter, Kimberly (Keith) Versaw and grandchildren, Kate (Case) Dingemans and Kevin (Haruka Iwasaki) Krause.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Erma Jefts; husband, Duane; siblings, Glen and Gloria, and her precious daughter, Janice Awad.
Our family extends endless gratitude and love to the staff at Caretel Inns, who cared for our mother/grandmother so warmly and thoughtfully these past few years.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Pathway Global Methodist Church on Saturday, December 28, 2024 at 11:00 AM with a burial to follow at Riverview Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 10:00 AM until the time of the service at the church. Memorials may be made to Pathway Global Methodist Church of St. Joseph or Caring Circle Hospice.
