Jay,
You had a heart of gold!! You were a mover and a shaker. You took your jobs seriously at the Dowagiac Fire Dept. You always had your radio for the dept on your hip. Thank you for your service Jay and thank you for always guarding the gate for the football team. If there was ever a problem you would try to handle it and if you couldn't you would make sure the police did to take care of the problem. You didn't stop there. You always were up before the rooster to be on your way to the fire dept and then off to do your arrons down town visiting the merchants. Helped walking Booths dog. You helped where ever you could. You will be so missed. You were also so good to your cat who was treated like a Queen and your gerbils you enjoyed so much. You must be in heaven in tears and overwhelmed in Heaven by God & all you see and meet all the people you once knew here on earth. Thank you Jay from the whole town of Dowagiac. You were a Wonderful human being and friend to all. To his family, You should be very proud of your brother. He was a beautiful gem. He shined so brightly while he was here. He made his mark as our town Hero. May God wipe your tears and may your hearts be filled with joy from your sweet memories. God blessing to you and your families. Rona Darr

I love you Jay. You were the first person to help me move in. You sure were a pain in the butt when you would knock on my door at 4:00 am in the morning to see if I was up. Lol. But I love you dearly. Bobby you were so good to Jay. Thank you for helping him. See you in heaven some day.
Sincerely, Tami Wilson

Jay was a great friend to all. He called it like he saw it "knuckleheads". A loyal friend at the fire station, he showed the true meaning of "My Brother's Keeper" with his dedication and diligence. He always gave the men respect and addressed the officers by rank. It was a pleasure and honor to have known and worked with him. Jay will be greatly missed. Our condolences to the family.

I was deeply saddened upon learning the news about Jay. Knew him way back in the day when we were kids, he was always hangin’ out. He was friendly, sometimes he would chat, but always seemed to be on a mission as he got older. He told me
Dick Boles asked him to guard the Alumni Field gate that was used by the football players. Jay took on the gatekeeper duties for many years and did a fine job. This proved to be a great gesture by Mr. Boles instilling trust in Jay. May he Rest In Peace.
