Roger's Memory Wall
We encourage you to share your most beloved memories of Roger here, so that the family and other loved ones can always see it. Share your favorite stories or comment on those shared by others.
Coach Vink was my PE teacher, Football and Baseball Coach, Drivers Instructor. He allowed me to student aid PE my senior year. I really appreciated how firm but fair he was with all of his students. He was the first and only teacher to paddle me with that Hugh wooden paddle he kept in his office. He made me a better man for it and I deserved every swat he gave me that day. I’m 62 years old now and don’t remember very many of my former teachers, but I will never forget the life lessons he taught me. Thank you Coach Vink you will not be forgotten.

I taught with Roger in New Buffalo in the early 80's. He was always fun to share the gymnasium and ideas each day. He drove the bus when we took the students bowling before the Christmas holiday. It was a fun 3 years. I moved a little to the north but I did stop in to Oink's a couple times. He was there once and we had a good laugh. My condolences to the family

My deepest sympathy to your family. Not only was Mr. Vink my teacher in high school I also had the pleasure of babysitting Carey when she was a baby and got a ride home in his Triumph. After becoming an adult and working for School Dairy I re introduced myself to Carry and then Mr. Vink and his wife Sharon. Lots of memories and again my deepest sympathy.

I will remember Roger as a very talented athlete; an outstanding high school coach of four sports, highlighted with a Baseball State Championship at NBHS in 1966; a very successful business man, making Oinks a “must-see” destination for tourists; a person blessed with a great family of whom he was very proud; a person who battled the dreaded disease of cancer for years; and most of all as a great friend of over 50 years going way back to the many days we spent as “beach bums” at Cherry Beach during the summer months. RIP Roger

Sending love and light to the family! Mr. Vink was a great man! I shared 14 amazing years working for the family business of Oinks. To this day, my favorite job! There is not an ice scream store I go to where I’m not checking their front floor to see if they’ve spot mopped or checking their freezer ledges for crumbs! You have set the standards for ice cream places around the world and people will never understand the love and special place I have in my heart for Oinks Dutch Treat💕

Sharon, our thoughts and prayers are with you, Carey, and Barry. Roger was such a supportive and positive influence for so many as a teacher and a coach and, a successful businessman. He was everybody’s favorite flavor at Oink’s, He wore many hats. Roger will be sorely missed. MaryJo
