Jerry Carl's Obituary
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the Passing of our own : JERRY CARL MAHONE SR.
Jerry Carl Mahone, Sr. was born on February 4, 1958 in South Haven, Michigan to the late Ardell and Missionary Idella Mahone. He left his earthly home on July 24, 2024.
In December 1977, Jerry married Debra Cunningham, and to this union they were blessed with three sons: Jerry II, Jerome Sr. and Jermaine. Jerry was a strong but gentle and kind man who loved his family with his whole heart. During the last few years of his life, he was lovingly cared for by his caregiver Mary, his sister Velma, and his son Jerry II.
Jerry attended South Haven Public Schools where he was a member of the Wrestling and Football teams. He was a hard worker and was employed at various companies in the South Haven area such as: Four Star, American Twisting, Everett Piano Company, A & P Grocery Store and Cornerstone AFC.
Jerry had many talents. He loved to cook and grill. He was considered a grill master by his family and friends. He was also mechanically inclined which was evident when he took apart his race cars that he received for Christmas, and he was touchingly persuaded by Mother Idella to put them all back together. Although Jerry enjoyed working on cars, his first love was music. Jerry played the drums, organ and piano. However, under the tutelage of his mother, the late Missionary Idella, he excelled at playing the piano. Because of his God given gift, Jerry ministered musically to congregations in the Covert and South Haven areas. He also loved to spend hours looking at good old cowboy movies.
Jerry accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of Pentecostal Temple COGIC under the leadership of the late Bishop Fred L. Cunningham I. He accepted the calling on his life and preached his first sermon “I Shall Wear a Crown.” Jerry later became the minister of music at Solomon’s Temple Ministries under the leadership of Pastor Simon Harrington until his health began to decline.
Jerry is preceded in death by his son: Jerome Mahone, Sr. His parents: Ardell and Missionary Idella Mahone and his oldest brother: Ardell Mahone Jr.
Jerry leaves to cherish his memory his sons: Aaron Lewis Sr., Jerry (Pamela) Mahone II, Jermaine Mahone, Darius Smith and Tyrese Moten, and his daughters: FaLisha Ford and Marion Smith. Seventeen grandchildren and three great grandchildren. His sisters: Teresa Mahone Jordan, Debra Mahone Martin and Velma Mahone Cunningham and Sister-in-law, Eva Mahone. His brothers: Quentis Mahone Sr. and William (Ida) Sledge Sr. and his Godson: Nathaniel Priest Goodwin; his Special Friend & Caregiver: Mary Webb as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends.
A Celebratory Musical in Honor of Jerry's Life will be held on Saturday, August 10, 2024 at 2:00 P.M. at Solomon's Temple Ministries 4805 Blue Star Highway, South Haven, MI 49090.
