To Mrs. Merrill’s Family: I’m very sorry to read of her passing. I will always think of her as good with kids and good for kids. Even though I never was in the Omegan Choir, I had many friends who were, and often tagged along to practices and attended many performances. The choir was so good! I remember how big the choir was, but she made the rehearsals fun. Her students were enjoying themselves and learning music at the same time. Mrs. Merrill deserves all the credit for getting the very best out of the kids. It was obvious how much she loved them all. Keeping you all in my prayers, Dana Skidmore Donley

Mrs. Merrill was an amazing role model and encourager to music students. She was the choir teacher for our two daughters and inspired one to follow Mrs. Merrill’s vocation and get her degree in music education through Bethel College. We especially loved all of Mrs. Merrill’s delightful concerts, because so many concerts had an underlying religious theme, which we valued and appreciated. She made a difference in so many lives. On a humorous note, our daughter Priscilla and first cousin, Keyna Cook, were in choir together and “trouble” together. One day Mrs. Merrill called them out and in her frustration, said to the two girls, “Do you think I have STUPID written on my mailbox?” When she meant to say, STUPID written on my forehead. The girls loved and knew Mrs Merrill well enough after four years in high school choir, that they made a STUPID sign and hung it on Mrs. Merrill’s mailbox for fun. She was well loved and will never be forgotten.

Janice was a teacher for my two children at Edwardsburg. She involved in the joy of music, on-stage productions, and made them appreciate various forms of music. Janice was a fine teacher, person, and role model. Edwardsburg school system lost a fine person when she retired. God bless her.
