James's Memory Wall
We encourage you to share your most beloved memories of James here, so that the family and other loved ones can always see it. Share your favorite stories or comment on those shared by others.
Jim was a tough but fair policeman. It is hard being the son of people that were so loved like his mom and dad. But he lived up to the lofty expectations with pride.

Jim was a surrogate dad to me growing up. Carey and I have been friends since 4th grade. Jim was always watching over us girls and making sure we didn't get into trouble and was real quick to remind us who the law enforcement was around these parts if we even thought about it. I will always remember Jim fondly because he was funny, genuinely kind, and a great father and man. He was so very proud of his family and his children and grandchildren. I will never forget the joy on his face when he danced with Carey to "The Sunshine of My Life" at her wedding. Carey, you truly were the sunshine of your dad's life. Thank you for sharing some of his sun light with your friends. My deepest condolences to you, Steven, Carol, and the grandchildren. Jim will always be remembered with love. Love you all.

Hen-tracks, as Jimmy was known at the Police Department (he could type 80 words-per-minute with only his index fingers!), was always a willing participant in pulling a practical joke on someone. One such prank comes to mind when one night Jimmy was driving the squad car, and his partner had dozed off in the passenger seat. A freight train was switching in town, and the engine was stopped at the edge of a street intersection. Jimmy pulled the car onto the tracks with the passenger side facing the train engine. He screamed to wake up his partner and yelled that the squad car had stalled on the tracks. His partner's first view was of the PARKED train engine right outside his window. His partner never forgave him! Jimmy was a true friend to all and will be missed. Our condolences to Carol and families.

My dad was quite the character. He always had a joke on hand, an old story to share, and an ear to listen. He knew every time that I was late to school, walked to G&G's instead of going home afterwards, and let me hang out at DPD even when I probably shouldn't have. He was one of my biggest cheerleaders when I was in dance, loved to travel and knew every one of the songs/dances that went to Regional and National competition with pride. More importantly, he loved his family and would move mountains for us; especially when his grandkids came into the picture. I'm so thankful for the time my family and I had, though it ended too soon. I love you always, dad, and I'll meet you at the moon ... watching a U of M football game and drinking a Dr. Pepper. XO

I and Jim graduated together, later he and I went into police work about same time. He went with City of Dowagiac I went County. He had my back one time on a police action. He was well respected by all that knew him. One good police officer that had a heart and treated all people fairly. He will be missed but not forgotten. Good by my brother till we meet again. John Wolff. So mote it be.

Thought's and prayer's for all the family, friends and acquaintances. A very well known Dowagiac face. Who followed in his dad's footsteps, a smile on his face, friendships made that were never ending. Mr. Mosier was my principal at Justus Gage school. Jim coached the first women's softball team I was on after high school graduation. Then blessed to meet the rest of the family. Cary at Family Fare Pharmacy helped train me in a new career and added a closer friendship with the family. Sending love and hugs to.
