Henry M. “Mr. D” D’Agostino, 96, of Benton Harbor, passed away, Sunday, September 1, 2024 at Corewell Health Lakeland Hospital in St. Joseph.

Hank was born May 7, 1928 to Pasquale & Catherine D’Agostino in Chicago. He graduated from Harper High School in Chicago, and went on to receive his Bachelor’s Degree from Western, Illinois University in Macomb, IL and his Master’s Degree in counseling from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo. Hank continued his education by taking numerous classes at both the University of Michigan and Michigan State University. He served his country in the US Army during the Korean War. On August 22, 1959, he married the “love of his life” the former Janice Saurbier in St. Joseph. They were happily married for sixty-five years. Hank taught drivers-ed in Michigan for fifty years and taught classes for forty-two years in the following school districts in Michigan-New Troy, Buchanan, Berrien Springs, Benton Harbor & St. Joseph. He was inducted in the St. Joseph Hall of Fame. Hank served as a referee at the high school & college level for football, basketball and baseball and refereed the finals for all three sports. Hank was a member of St. John/St. Bernard Parish. He was an avid sports fan and loved his job and the kids he came across in doing so, and cherished the time spent with his family.

Hank is survived by his wife Janice; his children-Susan (John) Miller of Conklin, MI, Denise (Scott) Lampe of Grand Rapids, David Jaclyn) D’Agostino of Henderson, NV, Dan D’Agostino of Benton Harbor; two granddaughters-Alexis Lampe & Brianna (Rachel) Lampe-Sedgwick; his brother John (Vivian) D’Agostino of Chicago; his sister-in-law Connie Dagne of Ohio, IL; and numerous nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers-Frank Dagne & Dom D’Agostino, and his sister Marie McCarthy.
