Ruth's Obituary
Florence “Ruth” Adkin passed away Saturday July 27, 2024, at Alamo Cove Nursing and Rehab Center. Born on April 6, 1933, in South Haven, Michigan to George and Florence Kalhorn. United in marriage on November 6, 1954, at First English Lutheran Church to the late Zane Adkin.
Ruth is survived by daughters Holly Wohlfert, April (Gus) Wright, Cindy (Doug) Evans, Nancy (Steve) Cerny, 9 beloved grandchildren, 13 much-loved Great-Grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and brother George (Hinako) Kalhorn, Jr.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 50 years, Zane Adkin; son-in-law David Wohlfert; and sister, Kathryn Ditch.
Ruth was an RN and long-time employee of over 40 years at South Haven Community Hospital. She was well thought of and loved by many due to her vocation. After her retirement she continued to work as an RN with Senior Services of VanBuren County.
Ruth had a deep and abiding Christian faith and had been a member of Peace Lutheran Church (previously First English Lutheran Church) her whole life. The importance of faith, love of music and education were instilled in Ruth by her parents, and she passed that on to her descendants.
According to Ruth’s wishes cremation has taken place and she will be laid to rest in the memorial garden at Peace Lutheran Church during a private family service.
