What a shock! David was such a dear friend and will be sorely missed. He was such a good, gentle, fun-loving soul. He was crazy about antiques and loved his family and friends. It is really with a sad heart that we say goodbye dear friend and will see you later.

David: I have known your sister, Brenda, for many years now and she is such a lovely person with a heart of gold. She has shared with me your work with the Underground Railroad and I have been so touched by it. How I wish I could have met you. A heart of gold must run in your family. Brenda: Thank you for being in my life. I will be thinking of you tomorrow and praying for you as you honor the life of your brother.

I have known Dave since the fall of 1969. We had great adventures in Kalamazoo, Sister’s Lakes and Dowagiac. He was in my wedding party in 1978. When he moved to South Bend, we had several lunches when he worked at Lafayette Radio. I admired his bright red Triumph TR-6 (although I never rode in it.). He always had fabulous decorations at his house for every holiday. Since I moved to North Carolina, our visits have been fewer but always memorable. He was a great friend, and will be sorely missed.

Dave Bainbridge was a lovely human being. He devoted his career to the preservation and interpretation of the material culture of northern Indiana and southern Michigan. When I was hired as executive director of the Northern Indiana Historical Society (1997-2005), Dave was my right-hand man. He led the coordination of the relocation of the museum’s collections from the Old Courthouse and various other locations to one secured building. He was instrumental in the development of the “Picturing Lincoln” an exhibit which for us both became the pinnacle of our exhibition career. My heartfelt condolences to Carol and family. May he rest in peace and rise in glory.

Love and deepest sympathy to you, Carol, and your family. Dave and you gave Underground Railroad Society of Cass County our start, and our story. In 2009 URSCC started to save the Bonine House. Dave was president and you were treasurer. Dave always said "We can do this!" He was right : ) Your knowledge and support for URSCC in many ways over the years will not be forgotten. Dave and you are part of legacy of the Bonine House and URSCC. Thank you.

Dear Carol, I'm in shock in reading this. I'm so very sorry. When my Mom worked at the gift shop I would volunteer for many of the Garden Parties or any of the events that the Center For History had and on occasion I would attend Dave's many talks he had on different subjects. He was so interesting to listen to. My God he had such a wealth of information stored up in that head of his. I loved his talks on his Post Card Collection especially the Valentine Collection. Carol, I will keep you and your family in my prayers. I'm so sorry. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🙏🙏🙏🙏

Dear Andrea and family- Your dad has been ever present in my life for 40 years. From when he stormed down the stairs at the Congress house to discover us burning paper to my wedding to my mom's funeral. Dave was witty, kind, curious, and comforting. Above all, he was so incredibly proud of you. You are surrounded by love, and by the memories of him.
