We were neighbors of Al’s when we lived at the Epcon Villa’s in Benton Harbor. Al was a no nonsense guy who we appreciated and shared some laughs.

Linda and I wish to extend our sympathy to you and the extended family on Al's passing. He was a wonderful guy. I was recruited to serve on the GLSHS Board in 1997. Around the end of 1997, Al and a few others convinced me to run for President of the BOD even though I'd only been on the BOD for one year. The best thing I did was to recruit Al to run for and stay on as VP to help me learn the ropes. Al became one of those special people I deeply appreciated as a mentor and a trusted friend. Al took on a crucial role in helping to negotiate and implement the court-ordered Human Use and Natural Resource Management Plan for Whitefish Point. He took a few turns at Chairing the Joint Committee required by that Plan before Fish & Wildlife became the permanent Chair. He was honest and diplomatic gaining the trust of the committee members from the other organizations. He exemplified the best of volunteering to further purposes that he cared for deeply. We had a lot of fun too. I am glad he has found peace from his recent challenging condition. We enjoyed several events together as well. It was our pleasure to know Al.
Sincerely, Terry & Linda Begnoche
