Just learned of Bernice’s passing. She and my late mom, Joan were longtime friends through their ties to the BCRP and St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. Bernice was a grand lady who will be missed.

Condolences to Bernice’s family. I had the pleasure of knowing Bernice and working with her on writing the history book of the “Lincoln Township Public Library, 1959-2009 The First Fifty Years.” Bernice was active in founding the Library by helping with the groundwork and working with a small group who instituted a “Summer Library” in 1958. Working with her on the book was a special occasion because she had been a huge part of the history and continued to be a Friend of the Library for 65 years. I had the opportunity to visit Bernice about a month ago and I’m so grateful for the opportunity to talk to her. She will be missed by many, but memories of her will live on. Carol Reigle

Please receive my condolences on the passing of Berniece Tretheway. I first met her when I was Chairman of the Berrien County Planning Commission about 1967. Berniece's many, many, contributions to Berrien County and the Berrien County Republican Party are beyond outstanding.I worked with her very constructively when I was Buchanan area representative on the Berrien County Commission. It will be had to match her faithful service. Sic transit gloria mundi.

I am so sorry to learn that Bernice is gone. Here is a fun memory of mine. I was a naturalist at Sarett Nature Center. Leading a trip to southwest Arizona. Got everyone checked into their rooms and sat down to relax. Got a call from Bernice. She and her roomie changed rooms. There was hysterical laughing. I went over to see what was going on. Seems in the first room Bernice was on the toilet and drips fell on her from the room above. She called the front desk and they were moved to another, better room that included a jacuzzi. They turned it on to see how it worked and both got showered. Called me for fun and I suggested that the next night I would bring all of our group to their room for a party. She was such a happy, roll with it woman!

Such a special person. All of our family thought so highly of her. She was the definition of “class.” Such a great smile.

Dear Janet and Marty and Family, Your Mom was such a Force in Stevensville and Lincoln Twp. But she was always so kind to me when I'd come over to play with you, Janet. I really thought the world of her. How blessed you were for having her in your lives for so long ! I'll bet God has given her an office job in Heaven ! Sending you my deepest condolences for the loss of your special Mom.

When I got my very first home of my own, my goal was to be as kind to the neighbor children as my neighbor was to me growing up. When you see me hiding Easter eggs for them, blowing bubbles or doing chalk drawings on my driveway with them, it is because of her. She left me sneak candy from her house, was patient when I "helped" her weed her flowers and kind when I needed her political advice. She was a legend in Lincoln Township, Berrien County and the State of Michigan. Lincoln Township would not have a library if it was not for her efforts. But most of all she was the BEST neighbor any kid could ever have💖 Rest in Peace Mrs.T. I was honored to be part of your life.
