Agnes's Obituary
Agnes was born on January 21, 1924, in St. Joseph, to Herman & Caroline (Schramm) Kaatz. At a young age she showed her hard work ethic as she had to go to work in Chicago to help assist her family. On October 3, 1942, Agnes married the love of her life, Vernon Lay, in St. Joseph. She worked for Health Company and Whirlpool as an appliance buyer prior to retirement. Agnes was a proud member of Trinity Lutheran Church. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading, but her most cherished time was spent taking care of her family and helping raise her grandchildren.
Agnes is survived by her children, Richard Lay of Fort Wayne, IN, Donald Lay of St. Joseph and Dianne (Vincent) Fernan of St. Joseph; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
Agnes was preceded in death by her husband Vernon Lay; parents, Herman & Caroline Kaatz; daughter Dorothy Schott; and siblings, Walter Kaatz, Lorraine Harmon, Henry Kaatz and Clara Neuman.
