I hardly know what to say. Betty Davis was my heroine, role model, and moral compass for most of my life. I was fortunate to have her as my 3rd, 6th, and 8th grade teacher, and as a lifelong friend. What fun we had discussing world affairs and politics! She was my inspiration to become a teacher, and I often thought, “WWBD”? when I had a thorny classroom issue. My condolences to her family and legions of friends and admirers. The world is a poorer place without her presence. ❤️

A friendly fighter to the very, very end! Though I have known Mrs. Davis virtually my whole life, most recently I would see her right up until a few weeks ago working-out at the Wellness Center with her always present vigor.. What an inspiration. Everyone has marveled for decades at her life so well-lived for her community. Today we count our blessings she was a South Havenite, a pillar of her generation.

My sincere condolences to the Davis family. What a good long life your mother led. I wish you many wonderful memories of her. I will always be thankful to her for encouraging my father, Burt Sherman, to write his book, "The History of Sherman Dairy and Story of My Life". It was a wonderful experience for him and our family and helped him during his grieving period following the death of our mother.

I was acquainted with Betty through the AAUW. She always made a point to say hello and ask me about my art students. She was an outstanding lady on so many levels and I am proud to have known her. My sympathy to her family and close friends.

What a inspirational woman. From teacher, neighbor, scout mother to associate on the founding charter board of Lake Michigan Maritime Museum and St Basil School Endowment she was my mayor and friend. Toast to you for a wonderful legacy left for many of us here in South Haven.

Mrs. Davis gave voice to progressive thought, the value of arts and letters and the importance of civic engagement. On a more personal note, she will be remembered for hopping in her VW Squareback to rush Mackey and the kid next door up Elkenburg on mornings they were running late for the 8:20 bell. A South Haven treasure, she will not be forgotten.

Thank you Mrs. Davis for being a lifelong inspiration and one of the best teachers I ever had. You were an inspiration as modern, independent woman even if I didn't know that in 8th grade. Rest In Peace.

I will never forget her subbing one time at St Basil's and what a force of energy she was teaching. She made me so excited about Civics. I don't remember a lot of my teachers but she is definitely one of the best. My condolences to the Davis family.

I was honored to have known Betty the latter part of her life, frequently seeing her at the Wellness Center. What humility and grace she embodied! She truly exemplified what we should all strive for, and I am, indeed, the richer for having known her, even for as briefly as I did. My thoughts and prayers for her family.

When Karen and I were newly engaged we stopped by here home to tell her the news. Of course she was all smiles. In the course of our conservation Betty paused, looked me straight in the eye, took hold of my fore arm and said....."We have to have a party !" And we did.

Betty (Mrs. Davis to many of us who had her as a teacher at St. Basil's) was truly one of a kind. She embodied the best of traditional values while always looking forward to the next way she could be of service.. She helped us to build the confidence to break barriers as women. I fondly remember stories of her travels, which inspired me to explore the world beyond our community. She will be missed by all whose lives she touched.

Mrs. Davis was a brilliant, vibrant, distinguished woman, with a keen sense of humor and a terrific listener. The "Mayor" taught me at St. Basil's, more importantly was a wonderful lifelong friend of my mother.....for that matter, all of us Canonies. She was ahead of her time,, by decades. Truly an amazing lady with grace, and caring for others. She now joins my mom, so they can continue their daily discussion of world events, and weekly Monroe Blvd "stop over for a cocktail"....I was privileged to know her, and admired her greatly..

Miss Betty was the most gracious and welcoming person I believe I have ever known. Every time we would visit she would greet us with enthusiasm and of course an offer of a drink. She was still enjoying her view of the lake with the New York Times on her lap the last time we saw her. She ended each visit with an invitation to "please come again soon". We will miss her immensely.

Connell, Mackey, JB & Families Your Mom was an amazing woman that taught us all so much by example. How lucky we all are to look back on all those wonder years growing up together on that magical strip of Monroe Blvd. (Vatican Roe) On many nights driving home from work, down what seems to be a lonely Monroe, my thoughts will drift to who all lived where and all the fun we had. Some nights I would feel sad thinking how busy it once was when we were kids. But then there was always one constant, your Mom and her home. She was still there and it made the neighborhood still feel somewhat intact. Her door was always open with a welcome and her beach was always shared with a smile. We were all so fortunate that your Mom lived such a long full life, just seeing her or talking with her would bring back a flood of special memories of all those that had gone before her. Our continued thoughts and prayers are with you and your families. Thank you Mrs. Davis for sharing your miraculous life with us all.
