Charles "Chuck" Hutson, Jr.

Charles “Chuck” Hutson, Jr., 71, of South Haven, passed away Thursday, April 27, 2017 peacefully at his home under Hospice care. He was born December 13, 1945 to Charles and Delores (Belic) Hutson in Anthony, Kansas. He earned his bachelor’s degree in education from Central Michigan University. Chuck’s teaching career spanned 36 years teaching U.S. government and math, 21 of those years teaching at South Haven High School where he coached boys and girls basketball, baseball, and boys and girls golf before retiring in 2006. Chuck also coached football while teaching in Muskegon. He married Mary Ann Szubinski on May 29, 1981 at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Spring Lake. Chuck was an avid golfer and a member of the St. Basil Catholic Church.

He is preceded in death by his parents and sister – Patricia Kiefer.

Chuck is survived by his wife – Mary Ann Hutson of South Haven, children – David (Bobbi) Hutson of Kalamazoo, Megan (Andrew) Buller of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Alissa (Steven) Chmielewski of Poulsbo, Washington, Aimee Swidorski of Alpharetta, Georgia, and Amanda (Austin) Yelvington of Palm Coast, Florida. Seven grandchildren also survive.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Monday, May 1, 2017 at the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home of South Haven. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at the St. Basil Catholic Church in South Haven. Chuck will be laid to rest at Lakeview Cemetery in South Haven. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Chuck’s memory to Caring Circle Hospice at Home, 05055 Blue Star Highway, South Haven, Michigan 49090 or the  Spina Bifida Association of Michigan, 4823 Turtle Wood Court, Commerce Township, Michigan 48382.
