Paula's Obituary

Paula Ruth Filbrandt, 83, of South Haven, died Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at her home. She was born May 15, 1930 to Julius and Paula (Radtke) Allers in South Haven. Paula was a 1948 graduate of South Haven High School. Paula was Miss South Haven in 1948. She married her husband of 62 years, Howard Filbrandt, in 1949.  Paula enjoyed going down to their land and sitting on the house boat, doing her jigsaw and crossword puzzles, fishing out on the big lake, and taking care of the birds and yelling at the squirrels. She will be remembered for her infamous slop sauce for chicken on the grill recipe. Paula was a member at Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church and served on the Peace Lutheran Alter Guild.

She is preceded in death along with her parents by her husband – Howard Filbrandt who passed in 2011, daughter – Deb Richardson who passed in 2003 and son – John Filbrandt who passed in 2011.  Also by a sister, Mary Jean Harbin.

Paula is survived by her  daughter – Polly (Gary) Plankenhorn of South Haven; son – Mark (Donna) Filbrandt of South Haven; daughter in law – Chris Filbrandt;  14 grand children; 20 great grand children; brother – David (Bette) Allers;  sisters - Judy (David) Schlaack of South Haven and Margaret LeBaron of Tucson, Arizona.  Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Visitation will be Sunday, March 16, from 1:00 to 2:00 PM at the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow beginning at 2:00 PM at the funeral home. Contributions may be made in Paula’s memory to South Haven’s Hospice at Home.
