Cordell's Obituary
Cordell DeCarlos Madden, 24, of Covert died Friday, April 27 in Detroit, Michigan.
He was born January 18, 1983 in South Haven, Michigan to Fred Madden Sr. and Deborah L. Smith. Cordell graduated from Covert High School in 2002. Cordell was a Class D All State basketball player in 2000 and 2001. Cordell was a member of the 2001 Covert High School Basketball State Champion team. Cordell holds the Covert School record for scoring. Cordell is also the 2nd leading scorer in Southwest Michigan. Cordell also played basketball for Ancilla College in Donaldson, Indiana.
He is survived by his father – Fred (Robin) Madden Sr. of Coloma, Michigan. Mother – Deborah Smith of Irving, Texas. Four brothers – Phillese Wood of Covert, Michigan, Fred D. Madden Jr. of Lansing, Michigan, William J. Elliott of Florida and Charles Taylor of Grand Rapids, Michigan. Three sisters – Anquenette Y. (Larry) Crosswright of Indianapolis, Indiana, Aneshia D. Lewis of Illinois and Altamese Y. Madden of Coloma, Michigan. Grandmother – Emma Ruth Smith of Covert, Michigan and grandfather – Jimmy Rayford of Illinois.
Wake will be Friday, May 4 from 11 – 12 at the First Baptist Church of Covert. Funeral services will begin on Friday at 12:00 P.M. at the church with Pastor Joe Wilkins, Dr. Michael Carson, Pastor Cecil Smith II and Pastor Adrian Massenburg officiating.
