Janet Virginia's Obituary
Janet Virginia Thomas, 59, of Grand Junction died peacefully at her home, Thursday, September 27, 2007 after a five year battle with cancer. She was born April 7, 1948 in Evanston, Illinois to Bernard and Effie (Redman) Wilson. She moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico and then to Monrovia, California in her teen years. She attended Ambassador College in big Sandy Texas graduating in 1971 with a Bachelors Degree of Liberal Arts majoring in Religion Studies and minoring in Library Science. Janet met her future husband at college and married Arthur Thomas on June 3, 1973 whereupon they moved to the Thomas family farm in Grand Junction, Michigan. Janet dedicated herself to rearing her four children and helping her husband by driving the blueberry harvester in the summer. Most recently she worked at the South haven Memorial Library as a library assistant. She enjoyed reading, writing short stories and visiting with friends, but most of all she enjoyed her family. Janet was a longtime member of the Worldwide Church of God in Kalamazoo until transitioning to Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church of South Haven where she served as a liturgist.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents and is survived by her husband Arthur Thomas of Grand Junction, Michigan: two daughters – Tanya Thomas of Florence, Kentucky and Virginia (Gina) Thomas of Sebastopol, California; and two sons – Jason Thomas of Edinburg, Virginia and Gregory Thomas of Ann Arbor, Michigan; one brother – Warren (Lorraine) Wilson of Clarksburg, West Virginia and one sister – Diane (Russell) Edwards of Camarillo, California.
As cremation has taken place, visitation will be Saturday, October 13th from 6 to 8 PM at the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home, 1076 S. Bailey Ave., South Haven, MI.. A memorial service will be held Sunday, October 14th at 5 PM at Peace Lutheran Church, 06321 Blue Star Highway, South Haven, MI . with Rev. Robert Linstrom officiating.
