I knew Pat for most of my adult life. Pat always challenged me to improve things and make them better in all aspects of my life & yes Blueberries as well. I can remember Pat showing me with pride his automatic rubber band dispenser to go over cellophane sheets for pints. His excitement when I first started talking to him about a Blueberry clamshell.....crazy idea I can remember how he would with pride walk me through all the different things he was growing on his Waldo Farm. But, what i remember (and as i type this start to get a little glassed eyed) is how when i worked in Florida him always opening his house to me. Whether it be for a 3 hour conversaiton that started out with a 5 minute chat. Or having me over for dinner/sandwich. I will forever charish those times and memories. I learned a lot from Pat & I will miss him!!!!!

To all of the Hartmann Family, We would like to express our sympathy for the loss of your loved one. It is very difficult to say goodbye to those that have been so influential in our lives. Even though this chapter of Pat Sr.'s life has come to an end his legacy will live on through you his family and through the blueberry family which he has been a part of for so many years.

Annie, Kathy, Jimmy, Dennis, Shelly and the entire Hartmann Family. What an amazing person your dad (father-in-law) was and what a legacy he left behind. Someone dear to me said these words when my dad passed away "Don't Cry Because It's Over - Smile Because It's Happen". I still need to remind myself of those words everyday. I pray that you will find peace and eventually joy in your memories of your loving father.

Dear Hartmann Family, I will always remember your Dad for all the things he taught me in life when I was a teenager. He was a inspiration to me then and now. He would always take the time to listen to you problems or help guide you in the right direction. Those qualities are hard to find these days. The Hartmann family has always welcome us with open arms, and that is something we will never forget. So our thoughts and prayers go to you all. May you rest in peace (Kooley)

I couldn't make it to the visitation, but I wanted to let you know how much your Dad & brother meant to me. It was an honor & privledge to be able to help take care of Mr Hartmann. He was one of the most caring & pleasant patients I've ever worked with. I also got a smile on when I saw he was coming in for a visit & enjoyed each one - he always had a smile even when he didn't feel well. And he'd always make sure we had blueberries here - which were delicious & appreciated. It also was a pleasure to get to know some of his family. Ann- I'm always here if you need a hug! I'll miss seeing him & getting hugs from him too! My thoughts & prayers are with all of you through this difficult time.

Rod and I were deeply saddened to hear of Pat's passing. We will always remember him as an innovator, looking at new and novel ways of doing things. His contributions to advancing the blueberry industry are many, insuring that he will not be forgotten. Conversations with him were always interesting. One particular story concerns a plant he was experimenting with in the greenhouse. It was from South America and masked (or neutralized) the acid in lemon juice so that all one tasted was the sweetness. After chewing on that plant for a while, the burst of sweetness as one bit into a lemon wedge was incredible! As Rod is currently traveling from Kenya to Croatia learning more about stevia, he has you all in his heart and wishes he could be with you to share more Pat stories.

To the Pat Hartmann Family Just want to say how sorry we are to hear of Pat's passing. Even when we all felt the end was near we are never fully prepared. Pat will be remembered by so many. He was such a likeable person. He had a gift to be able to carry on a conversation with any one. Our connection was at Horseshoe Cove. This means we have known him for eleven years. Seems like we have known him forever. We have read many of his writings that show how much he was in love with the growing business, especially the blueberry industry. He was so proud of his family. He has helped (along with Dan) our son get started in producing blueberries on his family farm in North Dakota. He even convinced us in NH to try it. His hospitality to us, when we visited him last fall was so genuine. Even cooked us lunch before our guided tour of the Hartman's Plant operation, including the processing operation which was very impressive, we might add. We know many others from Horseshoe Cove have enjoyed those tours as well. Pat will certainly be missed in Fla. He never had a bad word to say about any one. We know how much he enjoyed being there year after year. He had so many friends all over, - I guess all over the World. He would always bring fruit when he visited around the park. Oh yes, he would also try to talk us into growing some ourselves :-). LOVE YOU PAT. Those blueberry plants in our yard will keep you in our minds for ever. Thanks for the memories. Our Thoughts and Prayers are with you all. Gilmanton Iron Works NH

To the Hartmann family,my deepest condolences on your loss, I just found out about Pats passing, and it broke my heart. He was a wonderful friend of mine, and he was my patient. I was his ECP Therapy nurse, and he never missed a session. We became friends and stayed friends long after his therapy was over. We shared family stories of his life, his travels, his kids, friends, and how much he loved his blueberry and plant business.Exchanged holiday cards over the years and stayed in touch, up until this last summer we lost touch, and when I found out it broke my heart, because I'd come to love my "blueberry man" as I called him, My heart goes out to his family, he talked of his family with much love in his eyes and heart. I feel this loss deeply because of our special friendship. We will miss him very much, May God give us and his family, and friends, the strength to get thru this loss, For he was loved by all who he touched in his life! He will be remembered in my prayers always. Rest In Peace Pat, Love Laura and John Spoula Bangor, Michigan Love, Laura and John Spoula
