We encourage you to share your most beloved memories of Charlotte here, so that the family and other loved ones can always see it. Share your favorite stories or comment on those shared by others.
Dear Chuck, Ann, and Betty, I know first-hand how hard it is to lose your mother, but I also know that you are relieved to see her body, mind, and soul at peace. Aunt Charlotte and Uncle Port are now together again and she's finally reunited with Marjo whom I know she never stopped missing. She will always be a part of the loving memories that I have of family. We were all so blessed to have so many aunts, uncles, and cousins to be a part of our lives. I am so glad to have been able to call her "aunt". Aunt Charlotte was always so upbeat and her house (and swimming pool!) was always open and welcoming. That's what I will remember. Not a bad legacy I'd say. Heaven MUST be more fun now that she's there :-). God bless all of you. Love, BEV

I will always treasure my memories of your Mom, and Dad as well. I remember visiting them at their house and at Grandma's cottage on Thunder Mountain. Going to the Dairy for ice cream as a child was always a highlight of any trip to South Haven and remained so even when I was as an adult. To this day it is the best ice cream I have ever eaten. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time. May you treasure your memories long and the sharp pain of this loss dull soon. Cheryl Mangeno and Family

I am so sorry to hear about Charlotte's passing. I went to send a note to the Shinskes only to see her name. Jim told me Mom and Jean were having a cup of tea and I guess Charlotte just could not be left behind. I have so many warm and happy memories of your Mom. She was just that a warm and happy person that shared that with all that she met. She was a fabulous friend of Mom's and by extension all of the Ollgaards. There is no way to know how hard it is to lose your Mom until it happens. You have my most sincere sympathy.

I have wonderful memories of Mrs. Sherman from my days working at Sherman's Dairy during high school. A kinder, more giving woman I had never met. She treated us teens so well, with such attention and frequent generosity. She often invited us to have "pizza pool parties" at their home once we closed in the evenings. I think of both her and Porter so fondly, and remember them whenever I am home and get to visit Sherman's for what is still my favorite ice cream. May God bless her and be with her family. She was a special lady.

Aunt Charlotte was such fun to be around with such a great sense of humor. I have many years of fond memories. And what a great cook she was! I remember loving having dinner at Betty and Ann’s house. It was a special treat. She will be missed, but there are many special things to remember about her. My thoughts are with you all. Janet

When I told people that I owned the "Sherman House" with the pool, they would always say, "what wonderful memories" they had of being there and what made the memeories SO wonderful was Port and Dear Charlotte. I was honored to have lived among those memories. A beautiful lady who made the world around her brighter. To her family,I am sorry for the loss.

Hey Annie, and all the Sherman family and extended family....We are so sorry for the loss of your mom. What a great person she was. During Ann's and my "heyday" she (and Mr. Sherman) sure put up with a lot from us. But she always did it with her wonderful smile and great giggle. She was my "other mom" and I loved her for it. She will be missed....but may she be at peace. And all of you too! Lots of love, "Susie" and Tom

I think my favorite Aunt Charlotte memory is a time I visited with a high school buddy. She offered us ice cream then came back from the kitchen with a horrified look and exclaimed, "Port, we're out of ice cream!" The dairy bar was closed, so she had Uncle Port take us over there and bring us in the back way (keeping the lights off so they wouldnt' thing the place was open!). She and Port gave us each a "pig's trough" and scoops and told us to take what we liked. Talk about a high school kid's dream come true! We ate and ate and felt like kings! She was always a loving and supportive sister to my dad, and I will always remember her warm smile. Hope to see you all on Friday.

To the Family: Margie McDonald just informed me of the passing of your mother. Both Becky and I am so sorry for your loss, and pray that God will fill the void left in your lives at this time. Your Mom was the last person my Mom visted before her passing, both expressing ther wish to be able to go home. At this time I can only emagine the joy they are expressing now. Our prayers and thoughts are with you all, Don and Becky Kenney

So many memories! 1999 when Charlotte&Port came to visit my little petshop in Greensboro. They offered many word of advice which I remember daily. We shared the small business thing of supporting a family. I drove to Michigan with 3 boys under 5 by myself in 1999 and once again Charlotte was the consumate host. She made an amazing picnic basket including placemats for the trip home to NC. In 1990 I flew into South Haven with my boyfriend in his turboprop. Charlotte met us at the airport and we drove her car for the day. I am the chip off the old block of my beloved Dad who she loved dearly. I apologize for being a bit out of the box but Aunt Charlotte always embraced my wild side and I loved her for it. I will be thinking of you all Love ya!

If I had had my thoughts gathered at Aunt Charlote's service,I would have said: This is a day of sorrow and of joy .My Dear Aunt Charlotte had the amazing ability to make everyone feel that they were special and she could take the ordinary something to smile about. I have not had children, but have 5 nieces and nephews whom I adore. Everything that I know about being an Aunt I learned from Her. And I know for sure I am their favorite one! She was my friend,my champion,my comfort and joy. She has gone to Glory, and after our grief will be Jubilation,as He has promised it shall be.

Where to begin. I don't think there was a week that went by in the summer that I wasn't down at Port and Charlotte's house. With mom at the store, Charlotte's house became my place to go. The hours in the pool, watching tv, playing with Bit-knee, just sitting and talking with Charlotte as she made new aprons for the dairy bar or working on another project. The dinner parties our folks would have together. There was always so much laughing, I couldn't fall asleep till everyone left. I was there the day Marjo leaned over and kissed Port and said, thanks dad. When she left, Charlotte told me Port had given her his blessing to get married. This page is too small for all the wonderful memories I have of Charlotte and the whole Sherman family. I am so blessed to have had Charlotte in my life. Annie, Betty and Chuck you had incredible parents.
