I'm sad to hear that another person from my parents' era in Dowagiac is gone. I remember Sundays going into town with my dad to buy newspapers. And for him to gab with his friends at Harvey's. It's hard to believe that, in a small town like ours, you had a store like Harvey's, where you had your choice of so many thick, big-paged, massive newspapers. They came from Kalamazoo, Grand Rapids, and South Bend. And that wasn't all. You had your choice of two from Detroit. And three from Chicago! I think all of these were less than a dollar each. If there was a New York Times, it might have been more. I can't remember the difference between the east and west stores. I do remember seeing Mr M, as host at my dad's last high school reunion, held at the Round Oak restaurant. I miss those times. And I'll bet one of those Baby Buffalo sundaes would be real nice around about the Fourth of July.
My condolences to the family and friends. May you have a safe 2021.

Sending thoughts and prayers to all the family and friends. I had the opportunity as a youngest to work at Harvey's when my Aunt Carol Mosier cooked there... and enjoyed sitting at the counter and having either a real cherry coke or baby buffalo. And one of my first layaway accounts at Doug's clothing shop. And enjoyed the Round Oak. The McKay family have touched many lives. Jill (Personette) Shaer

RIP Dear friend. Doug and I worked on many projects together. We both loved the restaurant business. We had so much fun, and lots of laughs. My thoughts and prayers are with the McKay family. Thank you Doug, for the opportunities and support you gave me.

My sympathy goes out to Doug's family. This marks the end of an era in Dowagiac. My Aunt, Marian Pompey, worked at Harvey's and worked with Doug at Harvey's when he was a teenager and after his move back home to Dowagiac. Aunt Marian made home made pies everyday for the cities businessmen, waited on them in the little cafe in the back of Harvey's, and, I do remember those delicious baby buffalos! I also remember when Doug opened Harvey's East, and, of course, the Round Oak. It was sad when he had to leave the Round Oak due to health reasons, but his legacy lives on. The last time I saw Doug was at my Aunt Marian's funeral in 2009. Doug was a very kind, soft spoken man who will be missed. Again, my condolences to the family.

My sympathies go out to Doug’s family at this time. I worked with Doug on many celebrations that I was in charge of and we always had a great time setting those up. He was very kind and accommodating. I retired a few years ago, so I hadn’t seen Doug in quite some, but I have fond memories of working with him. He will be missed. Lois Owen

Nancy and family, I am sorry to hear about Doug’s passing. I will always have fond memories of being with you and hanging with Marla. And of course Steve and David. My favorite memories are when we got to hang at Harveys and eat and make baby buffalos! Thinking of you all. Life was so good, I have memories forever! And the cottages at the lake! And Grandma Moffett! And Lena! Hello to Marla.
