Jan Sharon

Jan Sharon ascended into heaven on Saturday, June 1. In the words of her 15-year-old grandson, Jack, “heaven has received a new Angel.” Jan was born in Webberville, Michigan on January 19, 1939. When she was 3 months old, the family moved to Atlanta. For the next 6 years, she moved to Memphis, back to Atlanta, and then to Baltimore. She and her family returned to Michigan and settled in Williamston. She graduated from Williamston High School in June of 1957. She continued her education at Michigan State University, majoring in medical technology, and graduated in June of 1961. She then moved to Buffalo New York for a one-year internship and then took a job at Roswell Park Institute, a cancer research hospital. On Thanksgiving Day 1962, she met the love of her life, John at a Thanksgiving dinner. They hit it off very well, went out that night, were engaged two weeks later, and married two months later, on February 3, 1963, at the Michigan State University Memorial Chapel. She worked in clinical pathology at Spectrum Lakeland Hospital (formerly Memorial Hospital) for several years and then became an instructor at Lake Michigan College in chemistry and biology. She loved her family dearly. Her children, Eric and Darcy, and her precious grandchildren, Jack and Cyanne. She was their best supporter and cheerleader in all of their endeavors, high school tennis, school plays, recitals, and more recently, football, soccer, Lacrosse, gymnastics, and competitive cheer. As much as she loved life and her family, she loved the Lord even more. She spent much time in Bible study, Christian endeavors, and volunteering at the First Church of God. She was a wonderful and dedicated Christian woman. Jan loved her home and took great pride in making it the best place to live ever. She loved to cook and had just begun getting back into sewing. Reading was a favorite pastime. She and John loved to travel. They backpacked for eight weeks through Europe in 1965, took several cruises including a cruise down the Amazon River, and traveled throughout the United States. Jan loved life. She is survived by her husband John, her son Eric (Christine), her daughter Darcy, her grandchildren Jack and Cyanne, and her sister Edna Mae Lantis (Depew), and her special cat DK. She was preceded in death by her parents Harry and Edna Depew, and her brothers Harry and Kenneth Depew. A celebration of her life will be on Friday, June 7, at 11:00 am, at the First Church of God, 2627 Niles Ave, St. Joseph, MI. Visitation will be on Thursday, June 6, 5:00 to 8:00 pm, at Starks and Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd, St. Joseph, MI. Memorial contributions may be made to First Church of God, St. Joseph.
