Walter's Obituary

Walter Arthur Murphy, II, 77, of Decatur, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Sunday, March 13, 2022 at his home in Decatur.

A graveside service with military honors will be held at 11:30am, Friday, March 18, 2022 at Ft. Custer National Cemetery, 15501 Dickman Rd., Augusta, MI. Walter was born July 17, 1944 in Albany, NY to Walter and Gladys (Smith) Murphy. After high school, Walter joined the Marines, proudly serving his country. He owned his own businesses including MS Service and Front Site and through these businesses was able to meet many people, some of which developed into life-long friendships. For many years, he was a NRA instructor, a position he truly enjoyed, along with his love of shooting and teaching others the importance of gun safety. He also liked to spend his time fishing and was a collector of many things, including coins and antiques. Walter was a pillar in the community and was loved by those around him. He was generous to everyone he met and will be dearly missed.

Walter is survived by his children, Tammy (Eric) York, Heather (Nick) Dressander, Winter Murphy, Pam (Al) Jarvis, Scott (Miranda) Coolidge and Barry (Lori) Coolidge, his grandchildren, Cristine Potter, Dillon Davis, Samantha York, Austin Murphy, Haley Reynolds, Hannah Reynolds, Alison Reynolds, Mallory Reynolds, Caleb Dressander, April Secondi, Samantha Hayes, Jennifer Grego, Eric Coolidge, Alexis Coolidge, Kimberly Coolidge, Tina Shriver, Nickcole Derry; his great grandchildren, Jason, Lily, Hiro, Scott Jr, Kimberlee, Dominic, Star, Sklyer, Lola, and Olivia; his brother, Edward (Brenda) Murphy, numerous nieces and nephews and special friends and caretakers David and Danny Hossler.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Madelyn (Swan) Murphy; his son, Shannon Murphy; his stepdaughter Kim Shriver; and his siblings, Gladys (John) Sudeikis, and John Murphy.
