Verneita “Teda” Kurina, 97, of Three Oaks, MI, passed away on Sunday – November 10, 2024 at the Hanson Hospice Center in Stevensville, MI. Arrangements have been entrusted to Sommerfeld Chapel – 15 N. Barton St., New Buffalo, MI.
Verneita was born in Lakeside, MI, on Feb. 2, 1927 to the late Ralph and Agetha (DeMorrow) Brown.
Verneita is survived by her children – Kathleen Kurina of Lakeside, MI, Annette (Dennis) Freehling of Sawyer, MI, and James (Johnette) Kurina of Lake Michigan Beach, MI; grandchildren – Ryan (Maria) Dixon, Larissa Dixon, Joseph Kurina, Adam (Deanna) Freehling, Michael (Rebecca) Kurina, Andrew Freehling, Megan (Jacob) Klitchman and Jordan (Blair) Cairn; great grandchildren – Harper, Donovan and twin boys on the way; sister-in-law – Ruby Brown Reitz; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband – Joseph Kurina, Jr.; daughter – Teresa (Kurina) Dixon; son – Joseph Kurina; sister-in-law Betty Gibson; brothers – Victor, Vincent, Vernon, Virgil and Van; sisters – Viola, Vera, Vivian, Velma, Verilla, Victoria, Verniece, VaLaura and Claudia.
Verneita enjoyed bird watching, reading, the casino, crossword puzzles, sweet treats, Lake Michigan, celebrating holidays, gardening, and her deep and unwavering faith. But most of all she loved her children, grandchildren and entire family. She was loved and will be greatly missed.
A visitation with her family is on Thursday, Nov. 14, from 5:00-7:00pm, with a rosary at 7pm, at the Sommerfeld Chapel in New Buffalo. Mass of Christian Burial is on Friday, Nov. 15, 11:00am at St. Agnes Catholic Church- 5760 Sawyer Rd., Sawyer, MI, with Father Basker Lopez officiating. Burial follows at Lakeside Cemetery in Lakeside, MI.
