Tom was born July 10, 1946 in Benton Harbor, MI to Victor and Sarah (Carter) Mix. He married his high school sweetheart, Karen Gieszer, on November 6, 1965 in Saint Joseph. In his younger years, Tom could be found at the bowling alley or playing softball with his Whirlpool associates. Later in life you could find him enjoying time at the casinos and playing poker. After a long day of work, Tom spent his down time watching monster movies; a ritual he repeated daily, especially when it came to King Kong and Godzilla. Tom was a jack of all trades; there was little he couldn’t fix or tinker with and he enjoyed those types of projects. He loved working on muscle cars, especially with his daughter, and had a fondness for Chevies, specifically corvettes. He was an avid collector of anything and everything – from Hot Wheels, die casts, Coca-Cola memorabilia, Christmas decorations, bar signs to Budweiser mugs, and he loved to collect it all. Although he was a music lover of many types, it was never too early to break out the Christmas tunes when Tom was around. He will be remembered lovingly by his family as a hands-on, active family man, always supporting his children and grandchildren, having fun with a big smile.
Tom will be missed by his wife of 59 years, Karen Mix; his children, Julie (Gina Vanasco) Mix, Cindi (Jeremy) Connell, and Toni (Leif) Etter; his grandchildren, Caitlin Connell, Joey Connell, Easton Etter, and Ava Etter; his siblings, Nancy (Warren) Pinkerton, and Vicki (the late Thomas) Tedrick; his godson, Jon Smith; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his siblings, Judith Smith, and Jack Mix; and his parents.
