Tom's Obituary

Beloved Husband, Father, Brother, and Friend

Thomas Wayne Castle, a man who embodied kindness, humor, and enduring love for his family and friends, passed away peacefully on December 1, 2023, in Crown Point, Indiana, at the age of 71.

Arrangements: A memorial will be held on Wednesday, December 13th, from 5:30-7:30EST/4:30-6:30CST at Starks (Swem’s) Funeral Home, 301 W Front St, Buchanan, MI 49107.

Born on September 4, 1952, in Niles, Michigan, to Wayne and Lena (Koenigshof) Castle, Tom grew up surrounded by love and instilled with a strong work ethic. As a young man, he honed his skills at Castle's Jewelry and Gift Shop (1940-1992), the family business founded by his father, Wayne Castle, Watchmaker. In 1974, Tom took over the reins of the business, continuing the legacy and fostering a deep connection with the community. His passion for the craft and dedication to the community laid the foundation for his future endeavors. Tom was an active member of the Buchanan Church of Christ, the Lions Club, and Buchanan Masonic Lodge, where he found camaraderie and a shared commitment to community service.

In 2006, Tom married Jennifer McCord, and together they embarked on a beautiful journey filled with love and laughter. Their union brought him immense joy, particularly in Tom's already established role as a father. He cherished his four children, Kelsey (David) Dailey, Connor, Chayce, and Cole, with his former wife, Karen Virgil (married 1981), considering them his greatest pride and joy. Tom actively participated in their lives, coaching them in various sports, including baseball, softball, and football, creating lasting memories for both himself and his children. He touched the lives of many through his love for coaching and his steadfast support for his children.

Beyond his family, Tom possessed a natural warmth and compassion that drew people to him. He had an infectious laugh and a genuine way of making everyone feel welcome and valued. Tom always saw the best in people and offered unwavering support, leaving a lasting positive impact on all who crossed his path.

While his presence will be deeply missed, Tom's legacy of love, laughter, and dedicated commitment to his family and community will continue to inspire those fortunate enough to have known him.
