Sophie's Obituary
Sophie Rose Sienkiewicz, 98, of Decatur, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 5, 2025 at her daughter’s home in Paw Paw. She was born March 25, 1926 in Chicago, IL to Jospeh Mroczek and Jeanette (Paszyk) Mroczek.
Sophie married Dominic Sienkiewicz on May 17, 1947 in Chicago, IL. They eventually moved to Michigan with their four daughters, where she raised her girls and worked on the farm. She loved to laugh and make others laugh. Every time someone came to visit, she would sing the same four songs. Her favorite was “You are my Sunshine”. She had a very strong faith in God.
Sophie will be missed by her children, Marianne (Paul) Lamoreaux, Diane (Dan) Rajzer, and Patty (Phil) Hover; her son in Law, Dick Overton; 14 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; and three great, great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Dominic Sienkiewicz; her daughter, Dolly Overton; her siblings, Stanley Mroczek, Henry Mroczek, Bruno Mroczek, and Walter Mroczek; and her parents.
A Mass will be celebrated at 11 A.M. on March 29, 2025 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Decatur with the rosary recited at 10:30 A.M. Memorial contributions may be made to Centrica Care Navigators, 7100 Stadium Drive, Kalamazoo, MI 49009 or Masses at Holy Family Catholic Church in Decatur, MI.
A luncheon will be held at the VFW hall following the service.
