Sharon's Obituary

Sharon G. Lovell, 84, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on September 6, 2024.

Sharon was born in St. Louis, Missouri on August 9, 1940, to John and Mary (Sweeney) Gies. She graduated from Mercy High School in Chicago where she was president of the sewing club. Upon graduation she worked at Inland Steel until she married and became a mother.

On November 11, 1967, she married the love of her life, Daniel B. Lovell Sr and the two of them built a life together full of love and laughter. Sharon was a mother and homemaker who worked tirelessly, along with her husband, Daniel, to provide for her family. She attended night school while raising four children and obtained her associates degree, achieving a perfect 4.0 GPA while working full-time at Wm. Condon & Company, Ltd. Sharon was a talented seamstress who started her own successful business sewing and tailoring clothes from the sewing room in her home. She took classes at H&R Block in tax preparation and was one of their top performing tax preparers. Sharon put her knowledge to work and created her own Accounting and Tax Preparation business which she ran out of her basement for over twenty-five years. Upon retirement, Sharon and Dan retired to their beloved Dewey Lake, enjoying every pontoon boat ride, breakfast at Mr. Wahoo’s and trip to the Hayloft for a scoop of butter pecan.

Sharon was a creative and multi-talented person. she enjoyed playing cards with her mother and aunts, sewing clothes and knitting for her family and friends. She made ceramic masterpieces, wallpaper with the best of them, and could fix most any problem by checking out a book from the library and reading how. Sharon was an avid reader with an expansive vocabulary that made her a force to be reckoned with when playing Scrabble, often forcing her opponents to pull out the dictionary to satisfy themselves that what she just laid down was indeed a word. She loved music and dancing, showing everyone how it was done at weddings, as she and her husband moved gracefully and effortlessly on the dance floor. She was smart, articulate, and funny. She loved her husband with all her heart and would do anything for her children without asking for anything in return.

Surviving are her four children – Daniel (Nora), Annmarie (Michael) Reilly, Kevin (Clare), Llora (Matthew) Sullivan; 15 grandchildren; sisters – Carol (John) Metzcus and Sue (Michael) McAuliffe; brother-in-law – Richard (Kathy) Lovell; and sister-in-law – MaryLou Lovell.

Preceding her in death were her death by her devoted and loving husband of over 50 years - Daniel Brophy Lovell; mother - Mary (Sweeney) Gies; and brothers-in-law – John Metzcus and Jack Lovell.
