Sarah's Obituary
Sarah graduated from Bridgman High School in 1972, where she served as class president.
On October 15, 1988, she married Ted, and together they built a family full of love and memories.
Sarah was the proud mother of four children: Sarah Jane (Bryon) Blurton, Merry (Jerry) Sneed, Aaron Sneed (Tatiana), and Maggie (Andrew) Spitzke. She also leaves behind six cherished grandchildren: Gabe, Ethan, Emerson, Jase, Shelby, and Jonah, all of whom were the light of her life.
Sarah was a member of several organizations, including The Mayflower Society, New Troy American Legion Auxiliary, and the Bridgman-Lake Township Historical Society. As a historian, she was known for her extensive knowledge of her family’s lineage, being a great-great-granddaughter of George and Sarah Bridgman. As part of the Historical Society, she contributed to the creation of the book Bridgman-Lake Township: The First One Hundred Years.
An avid Detroit Tigers fan, Sarah was always excited to attend games and cheer on the team. She had a special love for the Berrien County Youth Fair, and in her youth, she showed her horse Michael and later in life enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren participate. Sarah had a great love for animals and had a wide variety of dogs, cats, and horses throughout her life. She will be greatly missed by her four-legged companions: Shorty and Spot.
Sarah’s dedication to her community and family extended to her work life. Sarah was a longtime member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and worked for their school as the hot lunch cook for many years. She served as the Food Service Coordinator for the Berrien County Sheriff’s Office from 1997 until her retirement in 2019.
A lover of good food, Sarah was known for keeping the tradition of making family recipes for special occasions, which brought comfort and joy to those who had the pleasure of enjoying them.
Music was another of Sarah’s great passions. She played the organ, baritone, and bassoon. Sarah’s love of music was evident in her enjoyment of concerts; most recently attending Willie Nelson and Elton John concerts. She loved the school band and ensured all her children participated. Sarah was a member of the Southshore Concert Band for several years.
Sarah’s wit, humor, and thoughtfulness will be deeply missed by her family and all who knew her. She leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and devotion to her family’s history. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched.
Sarah is preceded in death by her parents, William Robert and Sara Elizabeth McCort, and her brothers, Jack and Tom McCort.
Memorial donations may be made to the Berrien County Youth Fair or Immanuel Lutheran Church in Sarah’s honor.
Sarah’s family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff of Caring Circle and Hanson Hospice House for their compassionate care during her final days.
