Bob's Obituary
Robert Wayne “Bob” Swartz, 77, of St. Joseph, formerly Buchanan, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 8, 2024, at home.
A celebration of life service will be held at 10 am on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at Swem Chapel, 301 W. Front St., Buchanan. Interment will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Buchanan with full military honors rendered by the United States Army and the Buchanan American Legion. Visitation will take place one hour prior from 9-10 am also at the funeral home. Memorial contributions in Bob’s name may be made to the Galien Woods Historical Society. Bob was born on February 11, 1947, to Earl and Doris (Potter) Swartz in Buchanan. He graduated from Galien High School, class of 1966. Following graduation, Bob served honorably in the United States Army from 1967 to 1969, including one year stationed in Vietnam. On July 19, 1969, he married Diana Fox in Lansing, MI.
Professionally, Bob began working at Clark Equipment following his military service. His career would then lead him to Sullair, Bosch, and Edgewater Automation, where he eventually retired. Bob was a collector of many things, but mostly enjoyed antique toys. A handyman, he also took up woodworking, crafting many rocking horses over the years, making one for each of his grandchildren. Bob also loved being outside, mowing the lawn and was always ready to enjoy a scenic car ride.
Bob is survived by his wife of 54 years, Diana Swartz; son, Steven Swartz of Manhattan Beach, CA; grandchildren, Dawn Smith, Sabrina Swartz, Benjamin Swartz and Cassidy Swartz; sister, Renea (Thomas) Moore and brother, Jerry (Peggy) Swartz. He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Doris Swartz; son, Scott Swartz; infant son, Troy Swartz and brother, Larry Swartz.
