Bob's Obituary

Robert “Bob” Allen Richardson passed away on January 7 from complications of pneumonia. He lived a long and productive life that started on October 14, 1938, in Indianapolis, IN. His parents moved the family to Minneapolis, MN after WW II and he spent his formative years there. He graduated from Washburn High School in 1956. He attended the University of Minnesota where he graduated with a BA in History in 1960 before entering the military. He served in the Army Counterintelligence Corp in Germany. He was fluent in German with an authentic Bavarian accent which he took pride in.

Before his service ended, he married another Washburn HS alum, Priscilla Ann Kellogg, on August 29, 1963, in Regensburg, Germany. He was honorably discharged, and they settled in St. Joseph, MI where they remained very active in their community.

Bob joined his father in the family business which was known by many names over the years but by that time was Richardson Office Equipment Company in Benton Harbor with the St. Joe Office Supply store located downtown St. Joseph. It was originally founded by Bob’s grandfather, Fred Richardson, in 1935 (the St Joe store added in 1948). He succeeded his late father as president/CEO when Bob Sr passed in 1980. Bob continued to run the business until he eventually sold it in 2001 to Integrity Business Solutions. He continued to work for Integrity part time until his retirement in 2022.

He was very active at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in St Joseph throughout his life and enjoyed traveling with his wife until her passing in 2009 after 45 years of marriage. He was active in the Prison Ministry for many years. He followed current events closely being a life-long supporter of the Democratic Party.

He is survived by his two sons and their wives, David and Sue (Snyder) Richardson of Benton Harbor and William “Bill” and Jami (Godush) Richardson of Middleville; a granddaughter and her husband, Hannah (Richardson) and Renzo Garza Motta of Kentwood; a grandson William “Will” Richardson attending Albion College; a step-granddaughter, Scarlett Morgan of Dearborn Heights; and a great-granddaughter (Garza Motta) due to arrive March of this year. Bob was close with and enjoyed spending time with his two sisters and their spouses: Linda Upton and Graham Davis of St. Joseph and Suzy Richardson and Phil Miller of Saugatuck.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert B. and Tina (Jacobson) Richardson; his wife, Priscilla (Kellogg) Richardson; his brothers-in-law, David Upton and William “Bill” Kellogg; sister-in-law, Frances (Kellogg) Armstrong; paternal aunt, Mary Jane (Richardson) Dasse; maternal uncle, Julian Jacobson.

A Celebration of Life is being planned for a later date and will be held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. Those wishing to leave an online condolence may do so at www.heritage-chapel.com.
