Robert's Obituary
Robert F. Hunsberger, a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather and skilled carpenter, passed away on February 24, 2025, on his 98th birthday. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Robert was born on February 24, 1927, at 402 Tuthill, Dowagiac, Cass County, Michigan, to parents Floyd Hunsberger and Lola Franklin Hunsberger. Robert graduated from Dowagiac Union High School in 1945. He served in the United States Army from July 1945 to December 1946 and was stationed in Salzburg, Austria with the Occupation Forces from December 1945 to November 1946.
On October 25, 1958, he married Denise Vandercar in Niles, Michigan. In 1967 he started his own business as a licensed builder/remodeler and retired in the mid 1990’s.
He loved spending time with his family, building or fixing things in his workshop, deer hunting, playing golf and being the official photographer at family gatherings. He was kind, humble, humorous and gave selflessly. Though he may no longer be with us, the love, lessons, and memories he leaves behind will forever be a part of the lives he touched.
Surviving are his wife of 66 years – Denise Hunsberger; one son – Van Robert Hunsberger (Jill) of Ann Arbor, Michigan; and a granddaughter – Rachel Hunsberger of Troy, Michigan.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Floyd and Lola Franklin Hunsberger; two brothers, Ron and Jerry Hunsberger; and four sisters – Betty Cox, Doris Loupee, Pat Raiford and Marianne Gould.
The family is grateful for the wonderful and compassionate care given at the Cass County Medical Care Facility. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Cass County Medical Care Facility, 23770 Hospital St, Cassopolis, MI 49031 or Dowagiac First United Methodist Church, PO Box 393, Dowagiac, MI 49047.
A funeral service to celebrate Robert’s life will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, March 8, 2025, Clark Chapel - Starks Family Funeral Homel at 405 Center Street, Dowagiac, Michigan, where friends may visit with his family from 12:00pm until the time of service. Pastor Chris Momany of Dowagiac First United Methodist Church will officiate. Interment will follow at Mission Hills Memorial Gardens, Niles, Michigan.
