Robert S. Campbell, 88, of Dowagiac, passed away on Thursday evening, September 19, 2024, at his home with his family by his side.
He was born on July 28, 1936, in Pittsburgh, PA, the son of the late John and Marie (Steiner) Campbell. Growing up in Aspinwall, PA, Bob was a 1954 graduate of Aspinwall High School. He continued his education at Westminster College in New Wilmington, PA, where he earned his Master’s of Science degree in education. On April 28, 1962, Bob was united in marriage to Linda G. Strickler. He was employed by Southwestern Michigan College in Dowagiac for many years and retired after 28 years as Dean of Financial Aid. Bob had a lovely voice, often performing solos, and was a member of the church choir for 51 years.
Surviving are his wife of 62 years – Linda Campbell; two children – Bruce Campbell and Judith Groat; two grandchildren – Austin and Bailey Groat; nephew – John (Sharon) Campbell III; and three nieces – Pam Campbell, Lou Ann (Tom) Peterson, and Barbara (Tim) Schwob; stepsiblings Irene (Alan) Weirritty and Skip (Kathy) Meinhardt.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law - John Jr. and Lois Campbell; and stepmother – Irene Campbell.
A service to celebrate Bob’s life will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at First United Methodist Church, 326 N. Lowe St, Dowagiac, where friends may visit with the family from 10:00 AM until the time of service. Memorial contributions in Bob’s name may be directed to First United Methodist Church or Southwestern Michigan College Foundation, 58900 Cherry Grove Road, Dowagiac, MI.
