Richard's Obituary

Richard passed away peacefully on Friday September 20.
He was born June 20, 1935 in Buchanan Michigan to Adam & Lottie Kuntz. He was eldest of 11 siblings. He was raised and lived most of his life in Bakertown. He graduated from Galien High School in 1954 and participated in football, basketball, track and FFA. He was Galiens first football captain.
Upon graduation from high school he enrolled in the U.S. Army and spent two years serving as an MP on border patrol in Yuma Arizona.
He worked at Post Products as a machinist, Buchanan Metalform for 25 years as a tool & die maker, engineer, and plant manager, and completed his career at Electro-Voice for 10 years as a supervisor and plant manager, retiring in April of 1998.
Richard also served on the Bertrand Twp. Fire Department from 1953-2000, and was the Fire Chief for 9 years. He’s the longest serving member of the fire department. He was instrumental in building two new stations for the township. He also served as the township cemetery sexton. He was also involved in Cub scouts as a den leader, and was the president of the Galien high school athletic boosters.
Richard married Katherine Joan Kuntz on Oct. 26, 1957. They were high school classmates.
He is survived by sons Michael ( Sharon), Rick (Cathy), and Dan (Lori). Grandchildren Joshua (Alicia), Jessica (Jason) Goodsell, Ryan (Jessica), Chad (Sara), Ashley (Josh) Young, and Bryan (Ty). Great grandchildren Jacob, Quinten, Parker, Myla, Skylar, Charlotte, Aiden, and Maven.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents Adam & Lottie, sisters Margeret (Peg) Miller, and Dorothy Przybylinski, Grandson Jason, and grand daughter in-law, Sarah (Josh).
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the Buchanan Meadows for all their special care.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 A.M., on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at Swem Chapel, 301 W. Front St., Buchanan, MI 49107. Burial will follow at Galien Township Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M., Tuesday, September 24, 2024 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Caring Circle Hospice.
