Rick's Obituary
Richard C. Freeman (Rick), 71, of Dowagiac, MI formerly of Homer Glen, IL passed away Tuesday, June 18, 2024. Rick was born on April 15, 1953, in Chicago, IL. He was the son of John and Ellen (Mench) Freeman. He was united in marriage with Debra L. Sypniewski at St. Louis de Montfort Church, Oak Lawn, IL on August 29, 1987.
Rick’s education included: St. Thomas Moore Elementary School, Chicago, IL (1967), Brother Rice High School, Chicago, IL (1971) and DePaul University, Chicago, IL (1974).
He began his professional career at Pannell, Kerr & Forster, a public accounting firm in Chicago as a Certified Public Accountant. After a successful career in public accounting, Rick was offered the position of Chief Financial Officer at Hyre Electric of Chicago and Indiana, a former client. He was highly respected by his co-workers and professionals he encountered. After over 30 years of dedicated service, he retired in 2017. Throughout his life, Rick’s catholic faith was the cornerstone of his being. He was a founding member of Our Mother of Good Counsel Parish in Homer Glen, IL. He volunteered for all committees, lent a helping hand wherever help was needed and was an integral part of weekly worship services. He was an honored member of the Knights of Columbus achieving the level of 4th degree.
Surviving are his loving wife of 36 years, Debra, son John, brother James Freeman, brother-in-law Scott Sypniewski (Kathleen); many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Preceding him in death were his parents, sister Mary Ellen and brother Jackie.
Honoring Rick’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no public visitation. A celebration of life will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at Our Mother of Good Counsel Church, 16043 S. Bell Road, Homer Glen, IL 60491.
