Rich's Obituary

Richard Wayne Cooper, Jr., 65, of New Buffalo, MI, passed away on Sunday – October 13, 2024 in Indianapolis, IN. Arrangements have been entrusted to Sommerfeld Chapel – 15 N. Barton St., New Buffalo, MI.

Rich was born on May 1, 1959 in Hammond, IN to Richard and Ema Sue (Bradley) Cooper, Sr.

Rich was a 1977 graduate of New Buffalo High School. On Nov. 10, 1990 he married Judy Lynn Davis. He was community minded. Rich was a faithful fireman for 40 years on the New Buffalo City Fire Department. Recently he had served on the city zoning board. Rich was also a member of the New Buffalo Rod and Gun Club. He enjoyed hunting, golfing, bicycling and shooting. Rich’s happy place was the beach. More than anything else Rich was a faithful husband, loving father, son, brother, and grandfather. He was loved by many. He was Blessed.

Rich is survived by his wife Judy; children – April (David) Latawiec of Livonia, MI, Nathaniel (Wendy) Sims of Lake Stevens, WA, Melinda (Sean) Teichner of Golden Valley, MN, and Jessica (Aaron) Nichols of Burr Oak, MI; 20 grandchildren; his father – Richard Cooper, Sr. of Schererville, IN; brother – Greg (Elaine) Cooper of John’s Island, SC; sisters – Sheryl (James) Huber of Lowell, IN, Ginger Litke of Schererville, IN and Sara (Daryl) Myers of Wheatfield, IN; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. He is preceded in death by his mother – Ema Sue Cooper.

Visitation with the family is on Sunday – October 20, from 2:00-5:00pm at Sommerfeld Chapel in New Buffalo. A Celebration of Life Service is on Monday, 11:00am at the funeral home.
