Richard's Obituary
Richard Lee Buss, 85, of Decatur, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 27, 2025 at Rose Arbor Hospice in Kalamazoo. He was born April 2, 1939 in Lawrence, MI to Elwyn and Mildred (Jacobs) Buss.
The family will celebrate Richard’s life with a memorial service at a later date at Decatur New Hope Community Church. A graveside service has been held at Hamilton Cemetery, Decatur. Memorial contributions may be given to Decatur New Hope Community Church. Arrangements entrusted to Newell Chapel, Decatur 269-423-2561. Richard was a graduate of Lawrence High School, class of 1957. He married Maxine Stam on June 23, 1962. He worked as a foreman for many years at Rudy Manufacturing in Dowagiac, retiring from Modine Manufacturing (formerly Rudy Manufacturing) in 2000. After retirement, he continued to enjoy farming and traveling. He was especially known for his sweet corn. Richard was involved in the Van Buren County Youth Fair, working with the livestock in the 4-H program. He was also a member of Decatur New Hope Community Church.
Richard will be missed by his wife of 62 years, Maxine Buss; his son, David (Suzanne) Buss; his grandchildren, Cayla, Matthew, Elizabeth (Cody), Alexandria (Max), and Benjamin; his great grandchildren, Maddix, Carter, Joseph, Kennedy, Ember, and Tessa; his nieces and nephews, Melvin (Nancy) Wharton, Gordon (Dawn) Wharton, Sharon (Scott) Jenning, Dan (Karen) DeLong, Julia (Dan) Walden, and Linda (Joe) Edwards; his brothers in law, Bob (the late Marilyn) Doroh, and Bob (the late Betty) DeLong; and many extended family members and friends.
He is preceded in death by his son, Mark Buss; his siblings, Robert Buss, and Dorine (Eugene) Wharton; and his parents.
