Ralph's Obituary

Ralph Harold Beuhler Jr. (1948-2025)

Ralph was an inveterate reader with a lifelong interest in philosophy. Ralph Harold Beuhler Jr. 76 years old, of St. Joseph Michigan died Wednesday, February 19, 2025.

Ralph was born March 17, 1948 in Fairfax County, Virginia. The son of Mary Louise (Reichert) Beuhler and Ralph H. Beuhler. Ralph was the oldest of 3 children (Elizabeth Beuhler (1950-2021) and John (1954)).

He graduated from University High School in Ann Arbor where he swam competitively. He attended Western State University (Gunnison, CO) continuing his competitive swimming. Later he transferred to Kent State University and graduated with a degree in Philosophy. Upon graduation he worked at Merrill Lynch Pierce, Fenner & Smith. Later he began a long career in retail sales for a vineyard in Western Michigan.

Ralph’s adventurous side was revealed in his post graduate motorcycle trip to Europe. He and a group of High School friends had a grand time including the famed “Running of the Bulls” in Pamplona, Spain.

Ralph is remembered fondly by his brother John for teaching him how to swim. As a child John feared the water for years after slipping into the pool (and “drinking” a lot of water) at the Fort Belvoir (VA) pool. Ralph took it upon himself to help John overcome his fear and enable him to become a (passable) swimmer. John was forever grateful for his help.

While staying with John, Allyson and George in January of 1990 Ralph revealed he was a cool customer and quick thinker. When Allyson went into (very) premature labor with Christine he grabbed George, eased Allyson into the car and sped to the hospital in 10 minutes, Christine was born less than an hour later.

Ralph played an influential and much appreciated role in caring for nephew George, and niece Christine. In the mid 90’s “Uncle” visited weekly to help take care of George & Christine. There were many games of hide and seek. There were frequent trips to the library followed by a stop for a treat or “surprise.”

He is remembered for his many years of swimming and running despite a lifetime diagnosed asthma condition. He is remembered for his hard work; he started a lawn care business in high school using his proceeds to invest in the stock market. He is remembered for having a “good appetite” for casseroles and pizza and making late night trips to the kitchen for “2nds” (or perhaps it was “3rds”). He is remembered for his legendary heavy “house rattling” snoring. He is remembered as stoic, stubborn and generous.

He was preceded in death by sister Elizabeth and is survived by brother John, Sister-In-Law Allyson, nephew George and niece Christine.

Ralph was a kind and gentle soul and will be missed by family, friends, co-workers, as well as the staff at the Whitcomb Assisted Living facility.
