Pat's Obituary

Patricia “Pat” Georgene Rasey McKee, age 87, passed over peacefully in Grand Rapids, MI, on April 24, 2025. She was born in Cambridge, WI, on June 1, 1937, the oldest of three children born to Max Edwin Rasey and Alice Janet Eide Rasey. They moved to Muskegon in 1941, where Pat was part of the Girls Athletic Association playing various sports. She began appearing in school plays in junior high; with her friend, Pam, she wrote and directed a community production, in which she also made all the costumes. As a Muskegon High Schooler, Pat was an outgoing and fun cheerleader, Thespian, and member of the Carmenta Literary Society and Y Teens. Pat was also on the radio, playing records and reading the news.

In 1955, Pat went to Muskegon Community College. She then attended Western Michigan College from 1956 until 1958. She married Alan Hamilton McKee, Sr., in September 1958. They began married life in Madison, WI, and moved to North Muskegon, MI, in 1959, where they had three children, Katharine Alice, Mary Crandell, and Alan Hamilton “Hamm”, Jr. In 1966, the family moved to West Lafayette, IN, where Alan was transferred with State Farm Insurance. They moved to St. Joseph, MI, in 1967, where they remained until they moved to Grand Rapids, MI, when Alan was transferred again in 1993. They moved back to St. Joe when Alan retired from State Farm in 1998. After Alan’s death in 2020, Pat remained in St. Joe until her recent move to Grand Rapids in 2024.

Pat went back to complete her college undergraduate degree at Western in 1970. She received a BS in Special Education. She then worked as a special education, regular education, preschool, and adult education teacher before opening the clothing store The Pullover Plus with her best friend, Amy Johnson, in 1981. They were small business owners for nine years. After closing The Pullover Plus, Pat worked as a volunteer coordinator for Congressman Fred Upton.

Pat considered her most important job to be a mother to her children and grandmother to her grandchildren, and she was fantastic. She is remembered for her love of life, her good humor, and her positivity. Besides her careers, Pat enjoyed tennis, knitting, bridge, boating, traveling with her family, and many volunteer jobs. Pat loved to entertain friends and family, as all were always welcome at her home.

Pat is survived by her daughter, Katharine Alice McKee, and husband, Brian Finn; her daughter, Mary McKee Hornish, and husband, William Hornish; her son, Alan Hamilton “Hamm” McKee, Jr; her grandson William Alan Hornish; her granddaughter Katharine Anne Hornish; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. She is predeceased by her parents Max Edwin and Alice Janet Eide Rasey, her husband of 62 years Alan Hamilton McKee, Sr., her brother Howard Rasey, her sister Jane Rasey, and her grandson Andrew Michael Hornish.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in St. Joseph, MI, or Special Olympics.
