Nona's Obituary
Nona Jean Schneider, 93, of St. Joseph, MI, passed away on Sunday – Feb. 2, 2025 at Pine Ridge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Stevensville, MI. Arrangements have been entrusted to Starks & Menchinger Chapel – 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, MI.
Nona was born on Aug. 28, 1931 in Benton Harbor, MI, to the late Lawrence and Clara (Sanford) Morten.
Nona was a 1949 graduate of St. Joseph High School. On March 4, 1951 in St. Joseph she married Wilbur Schneider; he preceded her in death on June 15, 2013. Nona was retired in 1987 as Finance Supervisor with the St. Joseph Public Schools.
Nona was a member of the Friends of the Maud Preston Public Library in St. Joseph. She loved to read, especially Biographies and Political Intrigue. She also belonged to the Lincoln Township Senior Center. Nona belonged to the Community of Christ Church in Benton Harbor, where she was very active. Nona and her husband loved to travel and made many long-time friendships during these travels.
Nona is survived by her three children – Karen (William) Schreier of Anniston, AL, Kristin (William) Mars of Berrien Springs, MI, and Kurt (Margaret) Schneider of St. Joseph; grandchildren – Erik, Jennifer, Ryan, Katie, Kyle and Michael; 9 great grandchildren; and a brother – Delbert Coonfare of Olathe, KS. Preceding her in death are sisters – Violet Jones and Wanda Mumford.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday – Feb. 7, 11:00am at Starks & Menchinger Chapel in St. Joseph. Visitation with the family precedes the service from 10:00-11:00am at the funeral home. Private committal will be at North Shore Memory Gardens.
