Mary's Obituary
Mary Ann (Pachay) Griggs, 103, of Decatur, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 15, 2025 at her home in Decatur. She was born April 22, 1921 in Mecenzef, Hungary to Andrew and Mary (Martha) Pachay.
The family will receive guests from 4-6pm, Thursday, February 20, 2025 at Newell Chapel, 83313 M-51, Decatur. A celebration of life service will be held at 11am, Friday, February 21, 2025 at the funeral home proceeding to Lakeside Cemetery for burial.
Mary immigrated to the United States with her mother when she was three years old, arriving at Ellis Island, NY on January 27, 1924. In May of 1938, she married John Griggs in Chicago, IL. In her younger days, she loved working in the yard; you could often find her out mowing with her push mower. She also took pride in keeping her flower beds in top notch shape. Mary was a wonderful cook and baker and enjoyed dancing to good music. But what she loved most was her family, especially her children.
Mary will be missed by her children, Jim (Cindy) Griggs, Barbara Griggs, and Susan Griggs; five grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and four great, great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, John Griggs, Sr.; her sons, John and Richard Griggs; her siblings, Andrew Pachay, and Helen Okleshen; and her parents.
