Mary's Obituary
Mary Garritano, 76, a lifelong resident of Dowagiac, passed away early Monday morning, October 7, 2024, at Cass County Medical Care Facility in Cassopolis, MI.
She was born on December 16, 1947, in Dowagiac, the daughter of the late Dick and Kathryn (Denny) Hunsberger. Mary was a homemaker most of her life. In her later years, she worked at Hale’s Hardware in Dowagiac for 15 years, until her retirement. On December 31, 2016, Mary was united in marriage to Arnold Garritano.
Mary enjoyed gambling at the local casinos, but especially loved traveling to Las Vegas. She enjoyed her time with Arnie at their lake property and their daily games of shooting pool. She loved reading and playing cards with family. Fall was her favorite season, and she always looked forward to hosting her annual Halloween party. Mary was a longtime member of the Dowagiac Moose Lodge #933.
Surviving are her husband – Arnie Garritano; five children – Jodi (Randy) Hale, Marci (Roger) Glynn, Melissa (Brian) Phillips, Meredith (Aaron) Marrs and Kevin (Jessica) Hogan; seven grandchildren – Kathryn (Mitch) Peret, Alexis Hale, Drew Phillips, Nate Phillips, Audrey Marrs, Cameron Hogan, and Khaden Hogan; one great-granddaughter – Phoebe Phillips; sister – Linda Jones; two step-children – Annette (Bobby) Forsythe and Lynne (Toby) Laubach; several step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her sister – Kay Brown and step-son – Arnold Garritano Jr.
Friends may gather to celebrate Mary’s life from 4:00-8:00 PM on Friday, October 18, 2024, at Dowagiac Moose, 54867 M-51 North, Dowagiac. Private inurnment will be Riverside Cemetery, Dowagiac. Memorial contributions in Mary’s name may be directed to Cass County Cancer Services or Corewell Health Hospice. Arrangements were entrusted to Clark Chapel – Starks Family Funeral Homes, Dowagiac.
