Marilyn's Obituary

Marilyn J. Mort, 89, of Eau Claire, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 29, 2025 at Forest Glen Assisted Living in Dowagiac.

The family will receive guests from 1pm until time of celebration of life service at 2pm, Thursday, April 3, 2025 at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church, 4071 Naomi Rd., Sodus. Interment will be held privately at Riverview Cemetery, St. Joseph. Memorial contributions may be given to Corso Care Hospice, 950 Corporate Office Drive, Suite 150, Milford, MI 49381 or Chapel Hill United Methodist Church.

Marilyn was born March 7, 1936 in Chicago, IL to Albert and Lucille (Hack) Boelcke. After her marriage to her first husband, Robert D. Burton, they celebrated the births of five children. She went on to marry Richard A. Mort on November 14, 1992; they remained happily married until his death in 2008. Marilyn was a quintessential kind-hearted caregiver. She kept busy raising her children, but you could often find her outdoors, tending to her gardens, enjoying long walks, and camping with her family. At the age of 50, she proudly obtained a bachelor’s degree and became a registered nurse – following her desire to care for those around her. She was a strong matriarch; keeping her family together was extremely important. Her family will never forget their annual camping trips up north where treasured memories were made.

Marilyn will be missed by her children, Debbie (Ron) Bingham, Pattie (Clyde) Fisher, Terrie Traxler, Karen (Dan) Stice, and Bob Burton; 12 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; and her stepson, Yogi Mort.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Richard Mort; her siblings, Richard Boelcke, Marie Jeffries, and Larry Boelcke; her parents; and her stepdaughter, Debbie Mort.
