Louise's Obituary
Mrs. Louise M. Winter, age 94, went to be with her Heavenly Father on Monday, January 20, 2025.
Visitation with the family will be held from 4:00 – 6:00 PM on Thursday, January 30 at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, MI 49085. A Christian Funeral Service will be held on Friday, January 31 at 11:00 AM at Christ Lutheran Church, 4333 Cleveland Ave., Stevensville, MI 49127 with Rev. Martin Measel officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Louise’s name may be directed to Christ Lutheran Church and School, Lutherans in Africa, or Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne.
Louise was born to Arthur and Louise (Klopp) Schoech on April 4, 1930, in New Britain, Connecticut. Louise met and fell in love with Ernest A. Winter while attending Concordia Lutheran Teachers College in River Forest, Illinois and the two were married in 1951. Ernest passed away in 2007.
Raised in a family of Lutheran elementary school teachers, Louise knew from an early age that she wanted to become a teacher also. Besides raising a family, Louise taught for many years at Christ Lutheran School in St. Joseph, and later in Stevensville, Michigan. She also participated in the church choir, Ladies’ Aid, Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, and volunteered in the school office.
Louise is survived by her children, Debbie (Klaus) Nixdorf, Rev. Thomas Winter, and Becky (Jeff) Eminger; daughter-in-law, Gaylin Winter; grandchildren, Micah Winter and Ethan (Sarah) Winter, Heidi (Bryan) Sorensen and Eric (Courtney) Nixdorf, and Sarah (Bill) Bedard and Elisa (Alex Wolfe) Eminger; seven great-grandchildren; and sister, Ann Gongol. Along with her beloved husband, Louise was also preceded in death by her son, Tim Winter and three infant children, David, Susannah, and Elizabeth.
