Kraig's Obituary

Kraig Earl Haun, 65, of Decatur, passed away on Friday, September 20, 2024 at his home in Decatur.

The family will receive guests from 5-8pm, Thursday, September 26, 2024 at Newell Chapel, 83313 M-51, Decatur. A celebration of life will be held at 2pm, Friday, September 27, 2024 at the funeral home, proceeding to Harrison cemetery for committal with military honors. Memorial contributions may be made to the Decatur-Hamilton Fire Department, 420 W. Delaware St., Decatur, MI 49045 or the Decatur VFW – Post 6248, 560 N. Phelps St., Decatur, MI 49045.

Kraig was born July 5, 1959 in Paw Paw, MI to Jack and Barbara (Hemenway) Haun. Kraig was a hard-working, patriotic, family man. He married his wife, Julie Penning on March 8, 1980 in Decatur amidst serving his country as a member of the US Air Force. He proudly served for 24 years, re-enlisting after 9/11 and completing four tours overseas. Prior to his re-enlistment, Kraig worked security at the Cook Plant for 24 years. After a relocation, he went to work for the James A. Haley VA Hospital in Tampa, FL for eight years before retiring last December and returning home to Decatur. Kraig enjoyed time spent with his family, whether it was watching sports, hunting with his boys, cookouts, or traveling/cruising with his wife, his pride in life was being around family. He spent time as an auxiliary member of the Decatur Fire Department, always willing to lend a helping hand. He will also be missed by his beloved cats, who he loved dearly.

Kraig is survived by his wife of 44 years, Julie (Penning) Haun; his children, Kraig Haun Jr., April (Scott) Zachary and Randy (Jamie) Haun; his grandchildren, Austin (Alexis) Mead, Chelsea (Ryan) Roach, Jacob (Ashley) Haun, Emma Zachary, Chloe Haun and Dustin Zachary; his great grandchildren, Jaxson, Waylon and Hudson; his siblings, Kevin (Kathy) Haun and Lori Joza; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents.
