Kathy's Obituary

Kathleen (Kathy) Joyce Poindexter, 77, of South Haven MI, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Saturday, December 16, 2023.

Kathy was born on November 17, 1946, in South Haven, to the late Robert and Ella May (Reynolds) Covey. On May 2, 1964, she married her loving husband of 59 years, Max C. Poindexter of South Haven, MI. She is preceded in death by her parents and her sister Bonnie (Bill) Poindexter.

Kathy is survived by her husband, Max Poindexter, her children, Shelly (Dennis) Hartmann of South Haven, Max Poindexter II (Stacy Denton) of South Haven and Hillary (Matt) Fisher of South Haven; her grandchildren, Ashley Hartmann (Troy Kobrick), Angela Rouse, Alicia (Paul) Russell, Kara (Jamie) Laraway, Toni (Josh) Blonde, Lindsay (Dave) Homister, Courtney (Wyatt) Neel, Nick Fisher, Max Poindexter III (Liza Morris), and Bridget Poindexter. Kathy also had 11 great-grandchildren with one more great-grandchild on the way in the spring (Courtney and Wyatt). Three siblings Betty (Tom) Bongiorno, Robert Covey and Rebecca (Todd Block) Covey. Numerous nieces and nephews; cherished cousins; special friends; and her True Blue family

Kathy met and fell in love with her soulmate and best friend, Max, at the early age of 12. A horse, Gambler, was purchased for Kathy from Max that sealed their undying love for one another so many years ago. Many book-worthy stories have been told of the loving bond Kathy and Max had for over 60+ years. She also shared with Max the love of family, friends, animals (especially horses), and collecting the most unique and interesting treasures.

Kathy had a way of making everyone feel special. She was known for her kindness and smile. The greatest joy of her life was her family. She loved them very much and enjoyed all the family and friend gatherings that consisted of story sharing, picture taking, and playing cards. She touched the lives of many people.
Kathy was a very social person. She worked within the community of South Haven for many years and made many lifelong friends and acquaintances. She was an active social media user who regularly interacted with many people regarding her thoughts, opinions, and motivational inspirations. Kathy also enjoyed casino outings with family and friends.

The family will receive guests to celebrate Kathy’s life with a luncheon from 12:00pm - 3:00pm, at Double “N” Ranch (The Horse Barn) located at 13299 64th Street, South Haven, MI on December 30th. A special tribute, memory sharing, and prayer will take place from 1:00pm - 1:30pm.
