Joseph E. Barr, 77, of Dowagiac, passed away Friday morning, March 8, 2024, at Ascension Borgess Lee Hospital in Dowagiac.
He was born on October 19, 1946, in South Bend, Indiana, the son of James E. and Mildred I. (Borders) Barr. Joe was a veteran of the United States Army surviving during the Vietnam Conflict. On November 20, 1971, Joe was united in marriage to the former Ursula Zagorjan. He enjoyed raising and racing pigeons and was a longtime member of the Dowagiac Homing Pigeon Club.
Surviving are his wife of 52 years – Ursula Barr; four children – Laura (Chad) Hutchings, Steve Carpenter, Shelley (Paul) Sibila and Andy Barr; five grandchildren – Nikalus, Bly, Kyle, Amber and Justin; six great-grandchildren – Kaden, Isabella, Mason, Christian, Emma and Tessa; and nephew – Jim Robinson.
Preceding him in death were his father – James Barr; mother – Mildred Syson; and sister – Sandra Robinson.
Honoring Joe’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no public visitation or services. Arrangements were entrusted to Clark Chapel and Cremation Services – Starks Family Funeral Homes, 405 Center St, Dowagiac.
