John's Obituary
John Eric Sorensen, 73, of Dowagiac, formerly of Decatur, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 9, 2025 at Ascension Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo.
John was born June 16, 1951 in Paw Paw, MI to Harrell “Bill” Sorensen, Sr., and Marcia (Cushing) Danner.
John has always had a love for music, from being the lead singer in the band Serapis to serenading his fellow residents at Forest Glen with his rendition of Wild Thing. John thrived as part of the Forest Glen community. He was a well-loved member and a joy to the residents and staff alike. John never met a stranger and let you know it by announcing, “Hey, I know you!”
John is survived by his children, John (Amy Garrison) Sorensen; Eric (Nikie) Sorensen, and Tifani (Michael) Pruitt; his grandchildren, Johnny, Jessica, Kyle, Taylor, Riley, Elise, Brooklyn, and Katherine; his great grandchildren; and his siblings, Cindy, Bill, Jay, Joe, Penny, Louanne, Tom, and Kris. Also surviving is his stepfather, Virgil Danner.
He is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Judy.
Memorial contributions in John’s name can be made to Forest Glen Assisted Living C/O Kelsey Kline at 29601 Amerihost Drive Dowagiac, MI 49047.
Per the family’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A private burial will be held at Hamilton Township Cemetery, Decatur at a later date.
