John's Obituary
John Edward Lammert peacefully passed from this life on March 1, 2025. He was born April 12, 1927, in Bluffton, Indiana. John was a friend to all; he enjoyed life to the fullest. Many would remember him as a kind man, telling many stories and being a jokester. Moving his family from Decatur, Indiana to South Haven MI in 1950’s to work at Reznicks Meat Packing, and Stones Meat Packing. He was a sausage maker by trade. John enjoyed fishing and hunting and relaxing at his cabin in Irons Michigan. Raised by his grandparents, John learned from an early age to work hard on the farm. At age 17 he enlisted in the Navy and proudly served as a Gunner Mate in the Philippines in WWII. John and Bitta were members of a corvette club, you would see them drive around in their light blue corvette. He lived at Eastbrook Senior Apartments in Bangor, Michigan, surrounded by the best neighbors ever. After a few falls at home, he resided at Timbers of Cass for rehab. Timbers staff would agree John was energetic and spunky. John had the opportunity to take the Honor Flight to Washington DC. John received a “Certification of Appreciation” award from VFW Post 667 for his years of commitment and active service to both the post and the community. He also received a Certificate for 75 years of continuous membership and service from the American Legion Post 49. John is survived by his companion Homer The Cat; daughter, Cheryl (Robert) Molter; son, Edward (Cathy) Lammert; grandchildren, Laura Long, Lisa (Dean)Lockhart and Sara Baez; great-grandchildren, Elin Schar, Morgan Lockhart, Damien Baez, and Elisabeth Lockhart. Preceding his death were the two loves of his life, Norma Lammert, who passed in 1989, and Katherine (Bitta) Kirchner who passed in 2017; and their dog, Blackie. His son Larry Lammert passed away in 2018. John’s parents were Albert Lammert and Mary Harter.
A Celebration of his 97 years of Life, and luncheon will be held at VFW Post 667, 1070 S. Bailey Ave South Haven on April 12, 2025, his birthday. All are welcome noon – 4:00. A private graveside service will be held at North Shore Memory Gardens and he will lay next to his loving wife Norma.
