Janet's Obituary

Janet Lenore (Campbell) Coy, 73, of Galien, MI, passed away on Friday, November 29, 2024, at her home. A Celebration of Life gathering will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2025 from 1pm to 3pm with military honors at 1:30 at Buchanan American Legion, 403 E. Front St., Buchanan. Memorial contributions may be made to the Military Women's Memorial or The Buchanan American Legion. Those wishing to leave an online condolence may do so at www.swemchapel.com.

Janet was born on October 27, 1951, in Chicago, Illinois, to Wilfred and Bernice (Larmer) Campbell. She graduated from Reavis High School in Burbank, Illinois, in 1969 and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in forestry from Southern Illinois College. In 1975, Janet enlisted in the Women’s Army Corps, proudly serving her country until 1977. While stationed in Colorado, she met Kenny R. Coy, and the two married on August 12, 1976 in Pike’s Peak National Forest. After their military service, Janet and Kenny settled in Galien, where they established Coy’s OK Farm, raising beef cattle, peacocks, horses, and other animals. Janet spent 35 years as an IT Support Technician, working for various companies across Berrien County. She retired after eight years at Westinghouse at the DC Cook Nuclear Plant. Janet had a passion for reading and writing, having published several poems and romance novels. She served several years on the Galien School Board and with the Berrien County Youth Fair. She volunteered as an athletics booster, a substitute teacher, and she produced numerous programs for sporting events and graduations over the years. Her sense of adventure and love for the outdoors led her to take countless trips across the country with Kenny on their motorcycle and an RV excursion to the Grand Canyon with her grandchildren whom she loved dearly.

Janet is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, Kenny; her children, Mandy and wife, Rachel (Hammer) Coy of Dundee, MI, Kristopher Paul Coy of Galien, MI; grandchildren, Allison Cypret, Michele Coy, Aidan Coy, Kaitlynn Coy, and Karragan Coy; sister, Susan Harris; nieces, Amy (Neil) Charles and Lisa (Steve) Vondrasek; and nephew, Jeff Harris. She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilfred & Bernice and grandson, Konner Coy.
